Engagement/Attempted Homicide

You read right. On Saturday I met up with Stephanie and Stephen at the family lake house in Flat Top. Gorgeous location and the home is going thru a remodel so we had bare bones, which I love of course. Stephanie and Stephen are the perfect couple...yin and yang! It's nice to just set back and see what happens when you are photographing this pair. Now on to the homicide. Stephanie had the idea of them ending the session with a jump in the lake which, hey, I am all for if you are up to it. Stephen was a little hesitant from the get go but Stephanie has this way of making him putty in her hand (in the best of ways) and he agreed! So...there they go...we planned to jump, get some shots in the water and hop out. Well water shots did not happen. The cold water sucked the air right from Stephen's lungs. Stephanie and I shared and "UH-OH" look as she tried to help him out. Stephanie in the mean time is fine...this chick stays in the water. So...Im leaving you with some great images as well as the FACE OF HORROR!! In Stephen's words...you can't have this much fun at Olan Mills! Love you guys!!!

I am going to combine this blog post. Well, because Im 40 minutes from game time and I need to get my work done! Can I just say, GO MOUTAINEERS! Okay, got that out of my system.

First up...Samantha, Chris and Brody! The B MAN. This is the 4th time I have got to shoot a session for this guy but it was the first time mom had been the center of attention. I know everyone can feel a little uneasy in front of the camera but Sam got calmed down pretty quickly once she realized she was basically on a date with a third wheel. The wheel being myself who happens to provide decent entertainment! Thanks for coming over this way and shooting another session with me!

Next I met up with Michael, a senior at Meadow Bridge High School. Michael has been threatened with extreme photoshopping if he turns on the WVU basketball game this evening. He let me know everytime he watches they lose so we have an agreement. No basketball watching from him and I won't add silly swirls and flowers to his pictures!

Sure we could have rescheduled but Jess is a trooper and she managed to even pull off some summertime clothing in the freezing temperatures. Most of you know that I was out of town last week to attend WPPI in Las Vegas! I had a blast, learned a lot, met great people and shot just for fun like I have not done in months! So this post will touch on one tiny part of the week. A fun session in the desert with Victor Sizemore and crew. I have to give big thanks to the models, unbelievably I took the cold weather to Vegas with me and it was in the low 40s on this evening. Regardless.....they are beautiful! Thanks to all of these folks for making this shoot a reality!

Preparing For Baby

Ashleigh and Heath made the trip up from Welch to be here bright and early. How I appreciate you guys, considering travelling a minimal distance when you are pregnant can be challenging. By the time the session was over I was dreading telling each of them goodbye. It was somewhat strange how our personalities just blended together and felt like an old friendship. I will patiently awaiting their litttle guy to get here next month for his newborn session!

So, it is about time right. Seems like I have been MIA and with my last seven sessions being cancelled due to the weather I guess it kind of looks that way. Even though not much is happening here, behind the scenes things are bustling...orders, conventions, graduation announcements and the list goes on.

I think, I maybe caught a glimpse of Spring today at Hawks Nest State Park. That may just be a side effect of being madly in love, like I believe Roger and Erin are. Perhaps sunshine and new beginnings follow them around. I for one am praying that it does. That each and every year their relationship will grow and transform and put down new roots in every direction.

I will say I may have seen a glimpse of the future. Check out the eyes on Roger and pair that with Erins heartbreaker smile....picture the children!! I wish you all the best. I am so happy to be your wedding photographer and I hope you enjoy the sneak peek as much as you did creating it with me today!

Today, I finally broke out the camera and did a mini session of my own son! My last six sessions have been rescheduled due to the inclement weather conditions. I know you can believe that if you live in Southern, West Virginia.Luckily I can accomodate one child inside if need be. Gale or "Reed" as we call him is a beautiful three year old, who loves trains and momma. Sorry, that just reminds me of a country song, the perfect country and western song to be exact. Gotta love David Allen Coe! Okay, that little tangent is over back to my baby! I just love this age! They are full of expressions and high fives! Not only was it cold today but we also had plenty of snow on the ground for Candi's session. She did not mind! She was hoping for some images in the snow. Candi reminds me of a modern day snow white, just a gorgeous girl. Desirea - Wyoming East Senior Photographer

Another cold day here in Southern West Virginia but we finally had some light in the sky. Desirea made the long trip up with her best friend Misty in tow from Jesse, WV. Once here, we got right to work on choosing her outfits and out we went to face the frigid wind blowing across the valley. Even with the cold, Desirea never had to force a smile. It never left her face, she was as enthusiastic about her session as I was! You can tell during the first three minutes how a session is going to go and I Knew this one would be a 10. I was happy to accept an invitation from Chuck and Gina to shoot their wedding ceremony and reception at Blackwells Restaurant last night in Lewisburg! While they currently reside in New Mexico, Chuck is a Lewisburg native and they have enjoyed a wonderful stay at the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs. I must say Gina was stunning and the whole room took notice as she approached Chuck! The wedding was followed up by cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and I have so much to be thankful for. I get so wrapped up in my work this time of year that it is sneak peek after sneak peek and you don't get to hear much from me, your photographer. I think now is a good time to give my fans a glimpse of not just my work but the person behind the images.

This year really has played out in fast forward for me. Every year I fill my home with images from a Christmas 7 years ago to this years Christmas. That was my daughters first and we have pictures of her on Santa's knee. Yes it is the cheesy mall photos but I will be the first to say that sometimes, especially Christmas those images are necessary. I see her at her 4th Christmas when her new brother joined us and I see her now. I see how a life can be summed up in images and it is a numbing feeling to think about all of those memories. The first step, the first bicycle ride, losing the first tooth. It all happened somewhere in between those photos. That is what I will have to hold onto. Those images will light a warm fire in my soul every Christmas and will motivate me to set on Santa's knee for a mall photo for the next 20 years if I have too! Hopefully one day I will have images of my grandchildren on Santa's knee.

It can be a daunting task to be a wife, mother and business owner but Im thankful for answered prayers I have seen in my life. A prayer to be a faithful wife to my husband, to live out the vows we committed to eachother eleven years ago. To be a mom and caregive to my children. To raise them up in what I believe to be the will of God. This alone can make your knees tremble. To know that you are responsible for this little person. Another answer to prayer is this crazy thing called photography. The wonderful network of friends and mentors it has given me. I am thankful for the ability it has lended me to help others.

I am amazed at what God has done in my life and I am likewise humbled by his blessings. So it is my prayer this Thanksgiving that you reach for your fullest potential. That when your knees tremble in fear you will kneel in prayer.

I hope that each of you take time to forget about the turkey and dressing to take a moment to look at each of the blessings in your life and the valley's as well and to be thankful at the wonderful person they have shaped in you!

I knew his name because of his family automobile dealership in our town but I couldn't spot him out of a lineup. Somehow we hooked up on facebook and here I was chatting with Ricky about my business and his family business and said, I have to add Ricky's wife because I wouldn't want some chick on facebook writing back and forth on my hubs' wall! lol...well I met Kristin and now Ricky is history! I dont know what I would do without my facebook chat time with Kristin. Now that he is job hunting out of state we have made a pact to visit in a new destination once a year to have our girl time! I love you both and Im so glad you won the mini session at my open house! Im still praying for a job close to home though! :)

I had a blast with Tiffany. For the life of me, I dont know why, but I rarely get clients of the tween age and this is the best age to photograph your child! I love it. They want to be all grown up but they havent lost their giggles and grins entirely either! Please take the time to schedule a session for your children ages 7 and up. You do not have to be a high school senior to come out and mark this moment in your life! I dont want to miss any moments of my children lives...I wish I could wrap them up and keep them at this stage forever but the truth is I love every stage and every age and thank goodness I can capture them. I hope you will do the same and if not with me than pull out your camera and chart those memories. It goes by way to fast!

The Holtzapfel family are right up my alley and Im even hoping we could become neighbors. Right now dad is full time in pharmacy school but they are looking for some property not only for a home but also to maximize their love of hunting season! While shooting their session we had to sidetrack for a second so their little guy could check out some buck rubs! Yes in West Virginia we look for deer sign including, buck rubs,scrapes and deer poop. Its just a way of life. On any given day our kids can look out the back door and see 20+ deer or a possible coyote and we can not forget the bear that took off with our dog food! Now that I have rambled on about our country abode on to the images!

Mara Is One!

This is not the first time I have got to photograph this little beauty. Mara recently turned one year old and we needed to catch this moment because all to soon she will be losing her first tooth and getting ready for the first day of kindergarten. Oh I miss my little girl at this age but I wouldnt go back. I want to encourage my own daughter to find her way, live life to the fullest and to do that she has to experience new opportunities and learn new lessons. Jessica and James nurture every talent and help her to develop every skill but most importantly tuck her in to bed, enjoy the fingerprints on the fridge and the cheerios stuck to the floor. Cherish every mess, every smile and every goodnight kiss. I believe the change we seek starts with our children and that comes through us. So love, learn, discipline and raise up this generation to be filled with hope and the courage to learn from every heartache and grow with every mistake! Happy Birthday little one and reach for every star!

Boudoir Marathon

I am in the planning stages of holding a Boudoir Marathon in the Morgantown Area on January 8, 2010. Lots of people wonder what exactly a boudoir marathon is. Simply, it is a day I set aside to soley shoot boudoirs 5-10 sessions to be exact. I reserve a hotel suite and retain someone for professional hair and makeup to give you the complete experience! Im currently scouting locations and gauging interest. With that in mind please email me at amanda@amanda-reed.com if you are interested in reserving a spot. With only 5-10 spots, I imagine they will go quickly! Once I am in touch with those who are interested and secure the suite exact pricing will be announced. Richard MBHS

Richard braved the wind and cold for our session. He however is a firefighter so he is used to the elements. What I can tell you is that 95% of my senior guys have pictures made to make mom happy and I can tell you that 95% of those guys leave with a different idea of what a session can and should be. We have fun and we take the edge off and I think Richard will agree!

Okay, so anyone who knows anything about West Virginia knows about the New River Gorge and all of my out of state and west coast friends...google it right now so you can find out for yourself. I live about 45 minutes from this spectacular formation but not until today did I know how beautiful it was. You could call Kelli and Josh thrillseekers or like me call them psycho! Kelli has a dream and that is to jump off of this bridge during the annual Bridge Day Event. I myself do not like to drive across this bridge much less walk or stand on it during bridge day but Kelli I make this promise to you, if you ever get in your 15 Base Jumps for jumping allowance on Bridge Day, I will walk myself out there and take pictures to prove you are crazy! Thank you for showing me all around the gorge today and me and the family plan to go back next week! No jumping of course!

A Busy Weekend!

If I thought my weekend was busy I may have to think again! Holly and Allen put together a spectacular wedding this Saturday at the Craik-Patton House in Charleston. They did everything from decor to dinner. I guess I should give Wes, the best man a little credit for his hard work in the kitchen as well. Allen, the groom loves everything culinary and he did a fabulous job on the reception dinner serving up things like, pumpkin curry soup, beef short-ribs, tamales, pork and apples the list really does go on. We were able to get lots of spectacular shots of the couple. They opted for the first look which is a photographers dream, giving us plenty of time before the ceremony to shoot the bride and groom. Later that night we met back up on Capitol Street for some shots downtown. So what's next for this lovely couple...oh not much, just a permanent trip to Denver, as they move there this week. Seniors Times Two

Today I travelled that long road to Oceana and thankfully the rain held off long enough to shoot senior sessions for Alisha and Gracie. I did have to cancel my other sessions due to the flu and weather conditions but life is good and Im thankful to these gals for showing me around. Our session started off at Twin Falls, then Oceana on down to Clearfork. We have tried this session a couple of times before but mother nature always gets us. Today we beat her by about three minutes! Thank you ladies for a great time today and I hope you enjoy your sneak peek!

Willie GWHS Class of 2010

I drove out to Willie's grandparents place this evening to shoot his session. It was very relaxed and a bit refreshing to shoot a senior guy after a long list of young ladies. I remember when Willie was in kindergarten and I remember his beautiful eyes and he still has them. His mom Lisa joined us this evening....she just had her 20 year high school reunion and it is so fun seeing the images from when she was in high school with everyone. Now it is her son's turn and maybe 20 years from now we will be looking at these images again when he celebrates his reunion! Good Times!

Meet Jessica. Today I met Jessica literally in the middle of no where and I can assure you it is the place to be. Its easy to feel on top of the world when you are standing there. Our session took place on a farm in Nicholas County. Breathtaking to say the least but the best part was that Hank was there. Yeah, Hank is the horse and Jessica is his barrel racing rockstar rider! I could have watched Jessica ride this horse all day long. Myself, I have never been on a horse but I could almost feel the wind through my hair as he flighted her across the pasture! I had a wonderful time and thank you for inviting me to wonderful location for your session this morning!

Today is my son's third birthday and my husband also turns 37 today. I have to say that today is my favorite day of the year. Without the birth of the greatest husband and father I know, my life would be drastically different. Happy Birthday guys, I love you both! That last shot is my favorite 3 year old picture ever. If he wouldn't think it was crazy I would have a big canvas right in my living room. Love that laugh but in a few years he would say, "mom Im in my underwear"

The Baker Family

Today the Baker's made it over for their family session. We had gorgeous fall color and the rain clouds decided to hold their moisture so we could shoot this session. These girls are great. I love the fact that Lydia is no holds bars. In the hour we were together I could tell she lives for the outdoors and running and jumping. Just the way a kid should be. I can remember my mom telling my brothers and me "Go outside its to nice to play in the house" bet you would only have to tell Lydia that once! Brenley on the other hand is a pre-teen. This is a very important age to be photographed. Just as important as a newborn and senior session. This girl is on the brink of discovering just who she is and where she wants to go and do with her life. It's a time similar to childhood when you see everything bigger than you are except you begin to see that you are the "bigger" piece to the puzzle. That even though you are one person you play a larger role in humanity and charity then you ever thought before. To mom and dad I have to say "Thank You" Dad proudly served our country in Iraq and is still serving our country here at home. I cant imagine being a world away from my children trying to ensure that every child has the same dream and ability to reach it as my own. I also cannot imagine being a mother and tucking my children in at night while my husband was a world away and being strong and confident in my efforts to support not just my family but the man who is risking everything for a better world for all of us. So as a thank you...if you are military and you call and schedule a session between now and December for Spring of 2010 you will recieve a complimentary 11x14 wall portrait. Jeni and Steve I also have a little something for you as well, I will have it waiting for you when you order! I just have to say that God has truly blessed me on my photographic journey and anytime I can pass that on to someone else I pray I will be humbled and do so!

You just have to love two year olds. They are fast movers and are intrigued by there surroundings. They can see trucks and imagine driving them just by looking at old tires and they see the potential of a butterfly to reach the stars. They also pick flowers for their mothers and scrap with their dads. We ended todays session with a little game of football and yeah well...mom and dad you went down. Way to go Lance!

Meet Cayli. This young lady is profound. I really was in awe over our depth of conversation. I myself am 29 but I know plenty of people twice my age that do not have her insight. Cayli is on scholarship to play volleyball and softball next year in Kentucky where she plans to major in Biology. She has plans of a carreer as a medical examiner. Now, as a mom, I of course ask "What about the kids, how would you handle that?" This stemmed from a video I had seen on facebook about the death of a child at the hands of his parents. Im not sure I could handle that side of the job and Cayli said "Im very focused, its part of the job and I will be the only voice they have left." It was the answer I needed to hear. Her answer was not about health benefits or salaries it was the honesty and compassion she feels. She leads her life this way. Cayli I am sure the path you are on is destined to fulfill your dreams. Stick to it and thank you for not just letting me photograph your session but for reminding me of my own goals!!

Myles and Jessie Engaged!

A few weeks ago I was luck enough to photograph Jessies beautiful sister in law for a maternity session. Once Jessie and got to talking we set up a session of her own and today I met Myles, her future husband! I think Jessie has a great deal. A wonderful man to spend her life with, a sister in law who is not just her husbands sister but a real friend. All thats missing is the paper that says the two are married because in all other aspects they are. Their hearts are one and they have everyone in their families excited about all the wonderful things their lives will hold!

Okay meet two awesome little girls. Too awesome in fact to even have their pictures made. I can tell the paparrazzi follow these sisters everywhere cause they weren't to receptive of having their pictures made at first but then big sister and me spent some time talking about school and she taught me some new songs and things started coming together. We were able to shoot at Gigi's house. That is what they call grandma and she has just a beautiful place for pictures. I have a lot of fun shooting kids. I love hearing things from their point of view and everything small seems to become really big and the world seems perfect again. Thanks for letting me come over and photograph your family this evening!

Matt and Crystal

Yesterday started off at Shelley's Salon in Oceana. This, in my opinion is the place to be in Oceana. Such great gals working down there, if I would not have had a wedding to shoot I could have mingled there all afternoon. Crystal and Matt's wedding however is what made me take that trek across Bolt mountain! It by all means was worth it. The ceremony was held in a beautiful church next to the home of her parents and the reception which was held on her parents lawn was "rawking" thanks to the DJ service's of Bill France. The dress...words can not even describe this dress and can you believe it was dress #2, not even the first choice but the first had a wacky alteration and we ended up with this beautiful gown. This dress shot isn't typical because in reality the focus is not even the dress, instead it is this heirloom quilt in the background that belonged to the brides grandfather. It was a special way for her grandfather who has passed away to also be a part of such a big day in the life of his grand-daughter. I hope you enjoy the sneak peek, enjoy Mexico but don't drink the water! (lol)

She is a lifelong dancer and has plans to attend WVU next fall and major in Occupational Therapy, which I for one think is a great choice. Afterall when I was her age that was my plan but things changed and here I am. No regrets of course. I say finally because I have been waiting and waiting to change their session from session to E session! I remember when Autumn told me and showed me the ring and I was so excited. Not just because I knew I was going to take engagement pictures but because its a win situation for everyone. I think Kip and Autumn make a wonderful couple and I see not only the love he has for her but for her daughter Haley as well. Did I mention she got her own ring from "Bip" Now Autumn is probably going to think, "I hope she got more shots of Haley than than crinkly hand over mouth face shot" and I did but it was just too cute not to do in the sneak peek. This is her face that she made when mom and Kip stole a kiss behind us. Love that kid! Thank you so much for coming by today!

Smith-Lively Wedding

So Saturda'ys weather was a was,h big deal. All that was on Lindsay's mind was marrying the love of her life, wearing her beautiful gown and having a wonderful reception with her family and friends. She got just that! Creekside Resort in Greenville, WV was the place to be on Saturday. It was buzzing with guests and workers everyone of course praying that the days wedding would be all the couple had dreamed of. Thank you for making me a part of this wonderful day!!

Meet Amber, she is one of my senior reps from Shady Spring High School! We met up today at Grandview and had an amazing session. Amber has amazing eyes! Meet Bryanna and Chad! Bryanna is a sweetheart and she has that lovely southern West Virginia hospitality that just wraps you in a big hug. Meeting her in person it is easy to see why not only Chad loves her but her friends who I have photographed over the past few weeks as well. Bryanna's father passed away last month after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was partly responsible for fixing Chad and Bryanna up! I think he did a good job! So, I hope all of you will say a prayer for this family. Bryanna and Chad hold onto every second as Im sure you will. Each of us out there take hold of each day and make a memory out of it! Hug your children, write a letter to an old friend or just sit yourself outside underneath an old Oak tree and take a look around you and thank God for his creation. I know I will!

A Bittersweet Fairytale.

You may ask why I would ever title a wedding post " A Bittersweet Fairytale " but for me it is bittersweet. I have shot sessions for Brad, Courtney and their beautiful daughter Addisyn two times previously. Over the past year I have watched Addisyn go from just sitting up to running down the wedding aisle, tearing off pew bows, I might add. I have also seen Brad and Courtney's love and life together start to grow and take shape. From home searches to home construction and first birthdays. So it is bittersweet for me. Im positive they will be back for more sessions but now their fairytale begins. I know niether of you will take for granted your happily ever after!! I love you both and your families! I wish you all the best. PS...I could never choose a favorite. Wait til you see the rest!!

Crazy in Love!

Okay...I had to entitle this post in that way. After all we did shoot part of this lovely engagement session on the grounds of Weston State Hospitlal. For those of you who do not know about this hospital it is a beautiful but long forgotten lunatic asylum. That's right complete with ghost tours if you choose! Weston turned out to be a fabulous location with lots of nooks and crannies. Holly and Allen originally fell in love with my urban style but after seeing some recent posts of mine in the fielded areas we were on a hunt for any kind of weeds and flowers we could find. Im looking forward to their wedding next month in Charleston at the Craik-Patton House. It is sure to be beautiful!!

Finally Nice Weather!

Jessie and I actually scheduled her session for the end of July and here it is September and we are just now getting to it. For her July session we met at Lewisburg and it decided to rain. We split up I did some shopping and the weather was beautiful but by the time we got on location the sky sprinkled us with a little more love! Today however we had mother nature's blessing and everything went fabulous. Jessie is wise beyond her years. She loves English and has plans to become a novelist. I for one believe she will do just that!

I had a great time with Marrah today. After we sorted through the clothes and shoes we hit the road. After checking out some of my favorite locations we ended up at a beautiful pond at her suggestion and then finished up at her home on the back field. I must say Marrah is a beautiful girl and she is very modest about it. No vanity here. Hard to believe huh. You would think with that Snow White complexion and sparkling smile of hers would go right to her head. Wrong. Marrah you are a jewel. Thank you for letting me capture this moment in your life.

Meet the West family. I must be the luckiest photographer in the world. I just love my clients. Charisma and I could have been bffs in a past life if those things existed! I think she is fabulous and from our first phone conversation I knew that I would love our session. Well, I wondered if her husband would be able to sit on the same pedastal as she. If he could match her friendly personality and the answer is OH YES! Jonh called me today for directions and let me know that his wife loved my ring shots. While I typically do these at weddings he ask if I could arrange it. Of course...I love details but then he gave me a little more information. Through an unfortunate set of events Charisma had lost her wedding ring. Flash forward to good news: John had bought her a new ring and while she new the purchase had been made she was not aware that he had it inside of his pocket. Now I could not hear everything John was saying but the look on Charisma's face said it all! I cannot leave out their son. He was such a trooper and while their was some bribing with cheese puffs he managed a rock star session of his own!

Well again...we had to wait out the quick rain shower that passed this evening before we could get started on this family's session! I have to say that mom and dad for that matter, are so personable and you just naturally fall into good conversation with these two. As for the little ones, typical for the most part! They werent amused by my camera but would rather focus their intrest on the sound of rolling water or the itchy grass that scratches on their legs. I love kids. They each have a different personality. I love tapping into their imagination and capturing real smiles and not forced poses. Thank you for choosing me to capture this moment! It was a pleasure!

Today was Lydia's first day of second grade! So we ended our morning at the house with an impromptu photo session to remember this day. She has grown so much since our first grade shoot! I cannot tell you how much I love this girl. She is typical in many ways, she fights with her brother, hides clothes under the bed but she has another side which tends to stop me in my tracks. She is compassionate, she loves God and his goodness like a Saint. She loves her family and to read. She loves learning and giving. I thank God everyday for the gift he has given to me and the blessings and talents he has given to her!

Mr. Hampton

You may ask why Im naming this post Mr. Hampton when its full of gorgeous gals? Well, every time I look at them I think about the potential boyfriends, husbands and possibly just acquaintances he as ran off from this group of gals. He has over 40 years worth of experience and I would reckon he is pretty ucustomed to it. The first image is not your typical family picture but it is what got me thinking about the Mr. in it. It reminds me of that Randy Travis song, Forever and Ever, Amen. I just see these women sitting talking bout the men and well, I see him look at all of them with tender care!
